Assessments

Assessment is crucial to effective teaching.

Assessment allows teachers to engage each child in the learning experience at his/her own level.

Interview and performance tasks and ongoing, observation forms of assessment are useful ways of assessing young children's mathematical learning.

The items on the DMA are research-based and can be related to SLO (Student Learning Outcomes).

The DMA has several purposes: 

•  To assess the important math concepts and skills needed to be successful at a grade level.

• To gain insight into how effectively teachers are teaching and students are learning.

•  To improve instruction and determine plans for individual students. 

•  To model a framework of early number concepts.

•  To monitor annual yearly progress in number concepts

•  To facilitate communication between teachers and parents so parents feel more informed about their student’s strengths and needs in mathematics.
